Software indentifies emotions in human speech

Voice recognition software applications have been around for years now and voice commands are a ubiquitous feature in mobile phones. However, these applications typically just recognise the human voice and not the emotions in the voice to completely comprehend what the words coming out of a person’s mouth “really” mean.

Researchers from Spain’s Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Polytechnic University of Madrid) are developing a software application that allows computers to accurately recognise human emotions based on automated voice analysis. (more…)

Pretend Playing Violin with Magic Fiddle for iPad app

My love for violin goes beyond just listening good symphonies and melodies for hours and hours. I like to play it but doesn’t have the skills to play Mozart symphonies (not even close to that :p anyway!). However, the technology has evolved and the electrical music instruments that are coming out of the gaming world have too (who doesn’t love “Guitar Hero”). Smule, the company famous for making the musical iOS titles like Ocarina, I Am T-Pain, Glee Karaoke and Magic Piano, has now released “Magic Fiddle for iPad”. (more…)

Wi-Fi Direct Set up P2P Connections through Wi-Fi without a Wireless Network

I always wondered why can’t we have P2P connection through Wi-Fi as I really wanted to connect my laptop with my phone or with my brother’s phone. Though Bluetooth has been around for years now, its range is limiting especially if you’re working in your garage and want to access something on your laptop from your phone. Finally, Wi-Fi Alliance listened to the demand of my heart and has introduced Wi-Fi Direct and have started certifying several new laptop components. As many of you might be wondering its possible uses, I believe the possibilities are endless. (more…)

I remember my first portable music player. It was the Sony Walkman with a cassette player and it steadily became a big part of my life. Later on we then saw portable CD players and then iPods replacing the cassette player but it still remains a hallmark in portable media players. After 30 years, Sony has announced that they will stop manufacturing and selling the cassette Walkman on the iPod’s 9th anniversary. (more…)

A Mind Reader Robot

Last month we told you about a humanoid robot iCub that could teach itself to use a bow and arrow. The use of artificial intelligence in robots is not something very new but a robot that can read your mind to perform certain actions and train itself is a novel idea.

A team of researchers at the Neural Systems Laboratory, University of Washington, lead by Dr Rajesh Rao is aiming “to take brain-computer interface (BCI) technology to the next level by attempting to teach robots new skills directly via brain signals.”
