We’ve been coming up with various iPad and iPhone apps for different purposes, including the apps to boost your productivity. Here comes another one that is very useful for writers especially.
Elements is a new iPad text editing app that synchronises with one of my favourite free online sync and storage service ‘Dropbox’. This simple app can also be used across all your iOS devices. (more…)
Prey is an open source program that lets you track your laptop if it is stolen, helping you to locate the thieves. It does this via the on-board GPS chip, or by analysing nearby Wi-Fi networks. This is a god-send as the last thing you want stolen is your laptop, especially if it contains bank details, passwords and confidential documents. (more…)
If you’ve got an iPhone 2G or 3G, I bet you’re noticing the lack of video recording facilites (especially since the iPhone 4 has popped up with a video calling feature with FaceTime over Wi-Fi and an enhanced 5-megapixel camera). Well as always, we are here to make your life a bit easier as we have picked 5 great apps that will let your iPhone 2G or 3G record and share videos using your iPhone’s camera – even though they don’t have a video function. A bit like magic, we know.
The iTunes store has hundreds of apps in the photography category but you have to really dig deep to find the useful video apps. We’ve tried to make your life simple by coming up with the following 5 iPhone video apps. (The order of appearance doesn’t represent the priority of the apps).
Well here’s an app that’s worth paying for! We often comment on useless apps that have some form of procrastination satisfaction, so in comparison, the Tube Refund is a step above the rest. This app makes it extremely easy for you to claim a refund when your tube is delayed. This simple form on the app means that there will be no more long forms to fill out. You just need to state at which station you were delayed at and for how long and then press ‘Send’. Tube Refund will take care of everything else for you. (more…)
Google’s mobile operating system, ‘Android’, is rapidly spreading with more and more Android devices coming from different hardware vendors, yet it is still behind Apple’s iOS in popularity and the number of apps. However, in an effort to bolster the Android platform, Google is offering a new tool called “App Inventor” for Android, that will let even the non-coders or developers create free Android apps with ease. (more…)
I thought I’d bring a bit of nostalgia to the iPhone by telling you of the Sims 3 app. Let’s all admit it, at least one point in our lives we have all been seriously addicted to the Sims on our computer; trying to learn the cheats so that we could build a mansion for our virtual friends to live in rather than a crummy small house. Sims allowed a whole new gaming revelation, allowing us to control our virtual friend’s lives. Now EA has jumped on the bandwagon so we can play the ever so popular game on our iPhones. (more…)
Applications and games have played a major role in Facebook’s success and one of the reasons why it’s banned at a majority of workplaces. Facebook games are the perfect place to procrastinate online. While there are thousands of applications and games available on this social networking site, very few could challenge the supremacy of Zynga; the biggest name in Facebook gaming (it introduced Farmville last year). Here’s our pick of the top 10 games for getting your Facebook game on.
Have you ever wondered what you will look like when you’re old and wrinkly? It’s a scary thought I know, but an intriguing one at that. One of my friends showed me this app at the weekend, called Aging Booth, which claims to be a “face aging machine”. (more…)
Find texting a chore? Well check out the new app called ‘Swype’, which is available to download sometime today for Android phones. This app will allow users to text faster than using normal virtual keyboards and has even topped the Guiness World Record for speed texting!
Want to know how it works? Well CrunchBase gives us the details:
“The patented interface enables users to create words with one continuous finger motion across an on-screen keyboard. This approach provides a faster and easier way to write. Swype delivers single-tap, multi-tap, predictive and “swype” motions for both stylus and finger based input. In addition, the application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.”
Previously you had to own a phone that already had Swype pre-installed on it, but from today you will be able to download the app directly to your Android phone.
Check out Swype‘s video below, and you can see the app in action for yourself.
Now, in the past couple of weeks we’ve shown you ‘Sleep Cycle‘ that monitors you sleep pattern and last week we introduced ‘Pandora‘ to you, which creates a constant stream of free new music to your iPhone. Whereas both these apps are useful and can enhance you life, the Sonar Ruler is rather pointless in comparison. It doesn’t really add anything to your phone, but we here in the office feel it’s a novel idea nonetheless! The Sonar Ruler is able to calculate the distance between you and a target by measuring audible blips and their ehoes.
“It sends a short pulse from the speaker and measures how long that pulse takes to bounce off of something and return to the phone. It then estimates how far away you are” says developer Laan Labs. It can measure up to 60ft away and you can switch the unit to feet, inches or metres.
A pointless app, yet one that can really help you procrastinate in the office.
Please bear in mind that this app is only suitable for the iPhone and works best with the 3G and 3GS as the microphone is better.
