Gmail doesn’t need any introduction. Going through hundreds of emails a day without sweat is only possible with Gmail. When Google launched Buzz in earlier this year, it tried to take the easy route to the critical mass by placing the social media service inside Gmail. Have you ever tried to email an .exe file? EXE (executable) files run and execute embedded contents on a single click. This poses serious security risks and most mail servers provide anti-virus protection. This means they scan file attachments of emails you send and receive. Some providers even go as far as to block a number of file extensions by default.

For example, Gmail won’t let you send .exe files, even if they are archived in a .zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, or .gz file. Messages sent to you containing an .exe file will be bounced back to the sender.

So how do you unblock attachments to send or receive .exe files?

When we set-up the mouse2house blog we were sure we wanted to protect our blog from a hackers’ attack. After all, we didn’t want our valuable posts to be hacked in a couple of minutes. So we have created a Top 10 list, full of useful tips to protect your blog:

1. Upgrade to New Version of CMS

Hackers normally hack those blogs which are using an outdated version of WordPress or any other blogger platform. Therefore upgrading to a new version will reduce the chances of hacking. WordPress – the best and popular Content Management System – constantly keeps its database up to date with security measures.

2. Upgrade Plugins

Plugins are third party applications and WordPress is not responsible for any issue or risk that is related to any plugin. Many of us own an iPhone (be it ‘2G or 3G’) but we all love Android too…don’t we? While many of us have switched or are planning to switch to an Android-based phone, some of us can’t afford it right now or want to retain an iPhone and run Android OS on it.
