Is Facebook Planning to kill Gmail

I have been discussing recently that if there’s any company that can challenge Google’s supremacy over the web, it’s Facebook. Well, the critics of this opinion might get some answers now as Facebook is possibly looking to kill Gmail with its secret Project Titan. Rumours are rife that Facebook is going to not only revamp its messages feature, but will also launch a complete web based email client with a personal @facebook.com email address for its users.

Sharp Unveils Two Glasses-free 3D Handsets 01

We knew it was coming, didn’t we? The Japanese mobile phone and electronics manufacturer, Sharp, is going to launch a couple of glasses-free 3D mobile phones running Android 2.2 on top of a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Dubbed as Galapagos 003SH and 005SH, both handsets sport a 3.8-inch 3D-capable display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The 005SH features a full QWERTY keyboard and an 8-megapixel camera while 003SH has a 9.6 megapixel camera capable of recording 720p video but no full QWERTY keyboard. (more…)

The First Tablet with Windows and Android Dual-Booting

As expected, the flood of tablets is here. The latest company to jump on to the bandwagon is ViewSonic with the first dual-booting tablet called ViewPad.

The new tablets from ViewSonic are available in 7in and 10in versions and boast Windows 7 and Android 1.6 dual-booting. They also feature LED capacitive touchscreens. (more…)

Gmail Labs have a host of new features in the experimentation process. The popular email service from Google has added a new “Labs” feature called Auto-advance which lets you automatically move to the previous or next conversation after Archiving, Deleting or Muting an individual e-mail message.

Google Unveils another Stable Release of Chrome; Google Chrome 7

It wasn’t long ago when we saw Google Chrome getting a stable version in the form of Chrome 6. Well, it seems Google’s in a rush to get more chunk of the browser market. Here comes another stable release; Google Chrome 7.

Announcing the release, Jeff Chang, Product Manager at Google said, “In this stable release, we’ve focused primarily on hundreds of bug fixes. We’ve also included a few other things that may be of interest to developers, such as full AppleScript support on Mac OS X for UI automation and implementation of the HTML5 parsing algorithm, the File API, and directory upload. Also, if you choose to block sites from setting any data in your browser’s content settings for cookies, you can now use a new dialog for managing blocked cookies in bulk.”

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology has been around for years now but Google has intelligently used it in its mobile app, Google Goggles, for searching just by taking a picture. Google Goggles launched as an Android app in Google Labs December last year, but now the search giant has included this functionality to the newest edition of the Google Mobile App for iPhone. URL Shortener

URL shorteners gained popularity thanks to Twitter’s 160 characters or less policy. However, the utility is here to stay as we don’t like long strings of incomprehensible in the URLs. Google has been using the URL shortener goo.gl since last December as a feature integrated into other Google products. (more…)

Google has changed its Google Doodle (logo) to celebrate or announce different events as a signature statement.

It’s Google’s 12th birthday today, and Google’s regular logo on the search page has been replaced by an image of a cake, created by the American painter Wayne Thiebaud. (more…)
