With the increasing awareness about recycling, the public’s attitude towards this phenomenon is becoming more mature. Rather than just concentrating on larger or well known recyclable items, eco-conscious folk are now turning their attention towards recycling cartridges. Whenever your original HP toner/inkjet cartridge runs dry, your first thought would be to just discard it, but not anymore. There are now many ways to recycle used HP toner cartridges.

The benefits of recycling used printer cartridges are numerous. When you recycle HP toner cartridges, you are not only preventing the landfill sites from swelling up, you also save a lot of natural resources used to manufacture a new cartridge. That’s not all, it can also (more…)

Fed up of slow printing? Need something faster? This new technology could be the answer. LG have laid claim to having created the fastest A4 colour desktop printer in the world. The new Machjet LPP6010N is capable of printing 60 pages per minute (1 page/sec) in a 1600 x 800 DPI resolution.

The printer features Memjet technology, known as Page Straight Array (PSA), which contains more than 70,000 ink nozzles on one print head – about 17 times the density on normal printers! The head is as wide as the page itself, so does not need to continuously move across the page as (more…)

Kobundo, a Japanese-based printing company, has recently unveiled its new ‘trick print’ technique. The technique involves mixing regular CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black, K being chosen because B was already in use for blue) inks with RGB inks that illuminate under UV light. Furthermore, the image can be printed in one pass, rather than overlaying the differing ink types as was previously used. A regular wide format eight-colour inkjet printer is used, with the RGB ink placed in the spare ink cartridge slots and specialised software used to combine the inks.

The technique creates some interesting effects, such as revealing hidden details, colour changes or magically transforming a greyscale image into a coloured one under blacklight.

“Rather than people just saying ‘It glows’, we want people to be more surprised and say ‘It’s beautiful!’” states Keizo Ohashi of Kobundo when asked about the method (Akihabara, 2011).

Take a look at DigInfo’s video for some examples of trick printing.

To a regular person, recycled toners and compatible toners appear to have the same meaning and it’s easy to confuse the two. Recycled toners are sometimes labeled as being compatible toners because they are not endorsed by the printer manufacturer. However, the two are not the same. The only thing these two toners have in common is that they are not made by the original printer manufacturers; the rest is all very different.

Difference between Recycled Toners and Compatible TonersYou will find these two terms, recycled toners and compatible toners, sprawled across most printer supplies and office consumables websites. However, an in depth explanation about recycled toners and compatible toners is missing. To grasp their meaning, you first need to understand (more…)

Gone are the days when you had to take your photo reel to a shop to have it developed. In this modern era, cameras have been digitised and memory sticks have taken the place of photo reels. You no longer have to trek to your high street to develop pictures of your holiday: you can now do it in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a computer, printer, camera and, most importantly, photo printer paper. Photo printer paper is high quality paper designed for photographs, which require high-quality print-outs.

Printing photographs is a completely different ballgame than printing text documents. For normal documents, you need simple, blank printer paper, whereas for quality photographs you require proper photo printer paper. This specialised paper is designed purposely for high-quality graphics (more…)

With the rise of computers, emails and online documentation, you may feel that information on paper is becoming obsolete. This is far from the truth. Sometimes, you still need to print out information, and a truly paperless office remains a pipe dream. To transfer the information from your screens onto paper, you need inks and toners. In reality, without inks and toners, your business would come to a standstill.

If you look at the process of printing, you will find it quite interesting. Take a laser printer for example:

  1. The toner powder is drawn onto the printer drum using static electricity. A laser dictates the image to be created by cancelling out the static charge in areas where toner is not required.
  2. The paper rolls over the drum and the toner powder is transferred onto it.
  3. Finally, the toner powder is fused with heat and pressure into the paper fibres.

Today, with businesses struggling to keep afloat due to recession, how can they keep up with the rising costs of inks and toners? This small process is usually overlooked, as you rarely keep track of how many pages you print or how much ink and toner you consume. Hundreds of pages are printed every day in your office, so you need to keep sufficient stock of printing supplies. (more…)
