Office 2011 for Mac is Here

Back in August, Microsoft announced the shipping date and prices for Mac Office 2011 and as promised, they made it available yesterday.

The update to the Microsoft’s flagship product and most popular productivity suite includes a number of major additions, including the return of Visual Basic scripting, the replacement of Entourage with a Mac version of Outlook, and integration with Microsoft’s online collaboration tools.

Office 2011 for Mac is available to purchase from Apple, Amazon, or directly from Microsoft. If you’re happy with Word, Excel and Powerpoint, you can go for Home & Student version that has a retail price of £109.95 for three licenses, and if you want Outlook also, Home & Business version is available for £189.95.

A Mind Reader Robot

Last month we told you about a humanoid robot iCub that could teach itself to use a bow and arrow. The use of artificial intelligence in robots is not something very new but a robot that can read your mind to perform certain actions and train itself is a novel idea.

A team of researchers at the Neural Systems Laboratory, University of Washington, lead by Dr Rajesh Rao is aiming “to take brain-computer interface (BCI) technology to the next level by attempting to teach robots new skills directly via brain signals.”

Did Apple Kill the CD

Back in April we were sad to bid farewell to the Floppy Disk as the optical disks killed the old magnetic diskettes. Well it seems that history is going to repeat itself with probably USB flash drives now killing optical disks. While CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays are here to stay for a while at least, it’s been ages since I last used an optical disk in my notebook. (more…)
